The sequel to the popular film ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, titled ‘Gadar 2’, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, made a strong initial impact at the box office. However, its earnings have been gradually declining as it enters its third week of release.
On its 14th day, which was August 24, the earnings of ‘Gadar 2’ dipped below Rs 10 crore in India for the first time since its release on August 11. The movie garnered an impressive sum of Rs 284.63 crore during its first week.
During the second week, the film continued to make collections: Rs 20.50 crore on its second Friday, Rs 31.07 crore on its second Saturday, Rs 38.90 crore on its second Sunday, Rs 13.50 crore on its second Monday, Rs 12.10 crore on its second Tuesday, Rs 10 crore on its second Wednesday, and approximately Rs 8.20 crore on the second Thursday, as per trade portal Sacnilk.
As a result, the cumulative domestic box office collection for ‘Gadar 2’ now stands at around Rs 419 crore. Projections indicate that the film is likely to earn an additional Rs 7 crore on its fifteenth day of release.
In comparison, ‘OMG 2’, featuring Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi, has amassed Rs 126.58 crore at the domestic box office up to this point. The movie raked in Rs 85.05 crore during its first week. Subsequently, it garnered Rs 6.03 crore on the second Friday, followed by Rs 10.53 crore on Saturday, Rs 12.06 crore on Sunday, Rs 3.75 crore on Monday, Rs 3.30 crore on Tuesday, Rs 3.01 crore on Wednesday, and Rs 2.85 crore on Thursday.
Regarding ‘Gadar 2’, directed by Anil Sharma, the storyline follows Tara Singh’s audacious journey across the border to rescue his son (played by Utkarsh Sharma) who is held captive in Pakistan. Released on August 11, the film boasts an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, Simratt Kaur, Manish Wadhwa, Gaurav Chopra, and Rakesh Bedi.
On the other hand, ‘OMG 2’, a sequel as well, is directed by Amit Rai. It revolves around a devout follower of Lord Shiva, played by Akshay Kumar, whose faith is tested by an unfortunate incident involving his son. With divine intervention, he embarks on a mission to confront those responsible for the incident. The movie also features Yami Gautam and Arun Govil. ‘OMG 2’ also premiered on August 11.
