Jawan stormed into the Bollywood scene, leaving an indelible mark at the box office. Shah Rukh Khan’s latest cinematic endeavor, directed by Atlee, etched its name in history by shattering all previous records, emerging as the biggest opener in Bollywood. According to the eminent Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film raked in a staggering ₹65.50 crore on its opening day in India.
This remarkable achievement surpassed Shah Rukh Khan’s earlier blockbuster, Pathaan, by an impressive 19.09%. In a tweet, Taran Adarsh couldn’t contain his excitement, exclaiming, “‘Jawan’ is sensational, creates history… Jawan hits the ball out of the stadium and shatters all previous records… Biggest opener [Hindi films] in India. Day 1 biz… Jawan: ₹65.50 cr [19.09% HIGHER than #Pathaan].”
To put it into perspective, Jawan’s phenomenal debut day collections outperformed not only Pathaan but also other major releases of the year. Pathaan had opened with ₹55 crore, while the Hindi version of KGF managed ₹53.95 crore on its first day. Other notable releases such as War and Aamir Khan’s Thugs Of Hindostan earned ₹51.60 crore and ₹50.75 crore on their respective opening days.
Jawan, directed by Atlee and backed by SRK and Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, debuted in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The star-studded cast, including Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, and Deepika Padukone, contributed to the film’s undeniable appeal.
Jawan’s success wasn’t just limited to the box office, as it received rave reviews from both audiences and critics alike. Renowned film critic Taran Adarsh, in his review, awarded the movie a commendable 4.5-star rating. He remarked, “Jawan hits the bull’s eye both as a movie that is out to entertain and a vehicle that demonstrates the power of a superstar endowed with a voice that is anything but ordinary. It manifests itself as much on the screen as it does outside its fictive confines.”
